Kentucky became the 15th State to join the Union on June 1st, 1792

Kentucky Allows: Limited Citizen Referenda, Initiative in the city of Lexington, Legislative Referrals and Constitutional Conventions.

Signature Requirements:

  • Referendum: 20% of the voter’s signatures who voted in the last presidential election.
  • Partisan Candidates: 2 signatures and $500 filing fee.
  • Independent Candidates: U.S. Senate and Statewide Executive Offices require 5000 signatures. The U.S. House requires 400 signatures and all three require a $500 filing fee. State Legislature requires 100 signatures and a $200 filing fee.
  • Write-In Candidates: Declaration of Intent and $50 filing fee.
